Russia, Italy, France and Egypt inspired the imagination of this great master. Chiparus even today remains the foremost designer of the Art Deco époque. Born in Romania, his fascination with the dancer came to light when he studied the art of Egypt, the Russian ballet, and French theatre. His women especially were depicted with an exotic elegance and attention to fine detail. Each study depicts a vignette magnifique. The costume and pose of the figures are striking and dramatic. World renounced are the “Dolly Sisters” and “Coin Dancer”. During 1914-1933 Chiparus created many of his notable art works. His technique of bonding bronze with carved marble is testament to his artistry and mystique. Chiparus’ style is distinctive and unmistakable. Only superlatives can truly describe his works.
